Prayer Connects Us to God | 12 Days of Prayer

Thank you for participating in 12 Days of Prayer beginning Wednesday, April 1st through Easter Sunday, April 12th. Our time in prayer over the next 12 days is an opportunity to intentionally seek God every day believing he will move in a personal and powerful way. The Word of God is one of the most valuable gifts to experience a dynamic daily prayer life. His word brings power, truth, and encouragement.

The more time you spend with something or someone, the more your relationship grows. The same is true for God. The more time you spend with God, the more your faith in him will grow. Prayer connects us to God. In every situation, we want to remember to pray first!

Prayer is most effective when it isn’t something we do every now and then, but when it’s a lifestyle we cultivate. To understand how to have a lifestyle of prayer, we can look at the example Jesus gave during his life on earth.

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. Mark 1:35

Have a Certain Time and Place

Jesus Got up early in the morning to spend time with his Heavenly Father. Make a daily appointment with God – whether it’s first thing in the morning, at lunch, or in the evening – and faithfully keep it.

Jesus had a specific place he went to pray (Mark 1:35). Having a designated place to pray helps us remove distractions and frees us to worship and pray out loud.

During our 12 days of prayer we are going to pray the promises of Scripture. When you pray the Scriptures, you are praying the Word of God and his Word becomes a channel to meaningful prayer and a closer relationship with him. Make your time in prayer personal. Remember you are having a one on one conversation with your Heavenly Father. He wants to hear from you.

DAY 1- Wednesday, April 1st

SCRIPTURE: No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me, declares the LORD. Isaiah 54:17

PRAYER: Lord, I know that no weapon raised against me will succeed because I am your child. I feel pressure in my life right now, and sometimes feel as though life will overcome me (talk to God about the concerns weighing on you). In faith, I claim your promise that no weapon can overcome me.

DAY 2- Thursday, April 2nd

SCRIPTURE: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

PRAYER: Father, my heart feels anxious (tell God what is giving you anxiety). I’m thankful for your peace that passes all understanding. I commit my worry to you. Guard my heart and mind. You are faithful, and I receive your peace in my life today. In the uncertainty of life, I’m thankful your peace guards my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help me to live in peace.

DAY 3- Friday, April 3rd

SCRIPTURE: We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. Psalm 33:20-22

PRAYER: Father, as I encounter difficult circumstances and challenging decisions, help me to wait in hope.  I can become frustrated and miss what you are trying to teach me. I am thankful that your unfailing love is with me and surrounds me.

DAY 4- Saturday, April 4th

SCRIPTURE: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

PRAYER: Father, I am encouraged by the truth that you will never leave me. You are always with me. Thank you for being a God who is present, a God who knows. When I feel uncertain or afraid, I pray you will encourage me through your Holy Spirit and remind me that I am never alone because you are always with me.

DAY 5- Sunday, April 5th

SCRIPTURE: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I am tired and pray for rest (tell God the areas that make you tired). Life is hard, and I feel like I can’t keep up my current pace. Give me rest and renewal. Transform my heart and mind to be more like you.

DAY 6- Monday, April 6th

SCRIPTURE: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

PRAYER: God, help me to find my rest and refuge in you.  You are my God and I trust you. When I encounter uncertainty or fear (confess these things to him), I know that I can come to you as my refuge and fortress. Thank you for your strength and protection in my life.

DAY 7- Tuesday, April 7th

SCRIPTURE: The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. Psalm 145:13-14

PRAYER: Almighty God, I claim the promises in your Word. I praise you for your character. You are trustworthy and faithful. I trust you to be faithful. When I come to you in humility and a surrendered heart, you will encourage me.

DAY 8- Wednesday, April 8th

SCRIPTURE: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

PRAYER: God, I make my plans but need to be reminded that your plans for me are best. You have promised me that when I call on you, you will listen. Thank you for listening when I pray. I am confident knowing that I serve a God who has a plan to give me hope and a future.  Thank you for the privilege of prayer; help me pursue you with all my heart.

DAY 9- Thursday, April 9th

SCRIPTURE: And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for the reminder that without faith it is impossible to please you.  I can find myself allowing fear instead of faith to lead my decisions. Thank you for your promise that if I have faith as small as a mustard seed, I can move mountains!  Help me grow in my faith and develop a stronger faith.

DAY 10- Friday, April 10th

SCRIPTURE:  At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). Mark 15:33-34

PRAYER: God, thank you for making my relationship with you a reality all because of what Jesus did for me on the cross.  Thank you for suffering for six agonizing hours on the cross to make it possible for me to be saved. Help me to feel the weight of the cross and all Jesus did for me and others who repent and believe in Him.

DAY 11- Saturday, April 11th

SCRIPTURE: For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

PRAYER: Father, I praise and thank you that through your Son Jesus Christ, I have been reconciled.  I am no longer your enemy; I am your friend. My sin debt has been paid in full. I have a right standing with you, not by own effort or work, but by your grace and mercy. Thank you.

DAY 12- Sunday, April 12th

SCRIPTURE: He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

PRAYER: Father, today I celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ!  Your resurrection makes it possible for me to have living hope. By your grace, I will live with confidence.  Forgive me for the times I live as if I have no hope. Help me live with resurrection power and be a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
